There’s been a lot of attention on the demolition of part of the White House East Wing.
So, here’s a quick breakdown. The White House actually has three main sections:
The Executive Residence — home to every U.S. president since 1800.
The West Wing — where the Oval Office and daily business happen.
And the East Wing — office space for the first lady and her staff.
A portion of the East Wing is now being torn down to make room for a new ballroom.
The demolition started Monday, and the new space is expected to cover about 90,000 square feet — big enough to host 999 guests, according to Trump.
This work is proceeding during the government shutdown.
