October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. You may be eligible to get a free mammogram.

The UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center is expanding access to screenings for uninsured or underinsured community members.

Screening is the best way to catch cancer early. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in their lives.

Marissa Bashore organized a monthlong program. She says regular mammograms should start at age 40 for most women.

"It's really hard to think about getting a breast cancer screening when you're feeling great. But that's why we have Breast Cancer Awareness Month to bring attention to the need," Bashore said.

Women who haven't had a mammogram and are ages 40-70 are eligible. Also, candidates shouldn't be showing any symptoms r
