TOWNSEND, Wis. (WFRV) - The 2019 severe storm that tore through Townsend left a mark on the community, with residents seeing ripple effects to this day.

“We worked through the night, and for the following three months, just to open roads and get them open for emergency vehicle traffic, then the real work began,” Townsend superintendent Bob Habeck said.

The storm leveled 75% of the trees in the community, leaving behind damage and debris, which still weighs heavily on the town six years later.

“The roots on the trees are really damaged and weak, so any amount of wind and the trees will fall over,” Habeck said.

Townsend is receiving $309,000 from the USDA Forest Service to clear out fallen trees and widen the roadways after three years of applications. The project aims to create and main
