SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A large chunk of a four and a half hour Springfield City Council meeting was focused on a proposal that's been in the works for years.

The first reading of the bill on Monday night would, if passed, allow the city to install an 18-month pilot program, focused on West Central Springfield.
It's the area that has had the most filed requests/complaints by renters against landlords.
If approved, the pilot program will inspect over 1,500 single-family or duplex homes, and inspect any issues that could pose a threat to a renter's safety and health.
