LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Michigan State Police are marking National School Safety Week by launching their new “School Safety Tool-Kit,” a first-of-its-kind reference tool for K-12 schools.

Every school district in Michigan is required by law to have an emergency plan.

The new toolkit tackles everything from building security to online bullying, providing districts with resources to craft comprehensive safety plans.

While some schools might have a better grasp on safety than others, state police say every district can get something out of this kit.

“It’s definitely paramount,” said Adam Brandt, Mason High School assistant principal.

Whether a threat is inside the building, out in the community or on the web, schools have to be prepared.
