SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Love might make you do crazy things, and during deer mating season, that can include running straight into traffic.
From October to December, deer activity increases on South Dakota roads, resulting in a rise in deer-related crashes. Law enforcement and safety experts reminded drivers to slow down and stay alert, especially during dawn and dusk when visibility is low.
Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Deputy Matthew Larson said drivers should resist the urge to swerve when a deer suddenly appears.
“As many people probably notice, when the sun is going down and it’s starting to get dark, it’s harder to see than when it’s actually dark,” Larson said. “So if you’re doing 80, your reaction time is pretty short, and the deer enter the roadway pretty quickly. Th
