A California news crew watched in shock as a police chase they were covering on live TV turned deadly in front of their eyes.
CBS Los Angeles anchors Suzie Suh and Juan Fernandez were talking viewers through the pursuit involving a stolen white van on the 110 Freeway , which seemed to be winding down when the vehicle’s operator came to a stop.
The van’s driver then crawled out of his vehicle’s window, crossed over a median and was instantly struck by a car speeding in the opposite direction, which was broadcast by the news helicopter following the chase.
“Oh my god! Oh no! Oh no!” Fernandez blurted out, visibly shaken.
The voice of assignment editor Mike Rogers could then be heard off camera coordinating coverage, according to Mediaite.
