WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - As the federal government shutdown threatens programs, localized efforts aim to keep beneficiaries covered. Among those impacted programs is WIC, which stands for Women, Infants and Children. As that name indicates, the program is intended to supplement nutrition for pregnant women, mothers with breastfeeding or formula-dependent babies, and young children, providing free, healthy foods. Nationwide, millions benefit from the program.
