LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport conducted a full-scale emergency exercise Tuesday morning to test the response capabilities of dozens of agencies in the event of a real-life disaster, simulating broken bones and even death as part of the drill.

"We have a requirement through FAA that we have to do this every three years," said an official involved in the exercise.

The scenario involved a plane crash in snowy conditions, with the aircraft upside down.

Firefighters rushed in, helicopters landed, and 100 volunteers acted as injured or deceased passengers to create a realistic training environment.

The airport emphasized that this type of training is crucial for saving lives when seconds matter.
