HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hundreds gathered at Iolani Palace Tuesday morning in support of Kamehameha Schools, which is facing a lawsuit challenging its admissions policy.

Students for Fair Admissions filed the federal lawsuit on Monday, claiming the institution’s “race-based admission policy is illegal and continues to harm families.”

The policy gives preference to Native Hawaiians.

In a statement, Kamehameha Schools said they anticipated the legal challenge .

More than 150 students were among the crowd, which also included alumni and the public, wearing blue and holding posters and banners.

The rally included speeches, live cultural chants and performances.
