BOSTON —

The Massachusetts Department of Health and Human Services announced Tuesday that it will not receive November's funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) due to the federal government shutdown .

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service has notified every state that it will not receive SNAP funding in November.

SNAP, the nation's largest anti-hunger program with 42 million people nationwide receiving benefits, issues electronic benefits that can be used like cash to purchase food.

President and CEO of the Greater Boston Food Bank, Catherine D'Amato, says one in three people is food insecure in the Bay State.

She says if there are no more SNAP benefits, the pressure on food pantries will only grow.
