Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes on Tuesday (Oct. 21) voted to convict the seven defendants who make up the so-called Disinformation Nucleus – or Nucleus 4 – of the coup plot that sought to keep former President Jair Bolsonaro in power after his defeat in the 2022 elections.
As rapporteur for the case, Justice Moraes reiterated at several points in his vote speech that the existence of a criminal organization – complete with its division of tasks and the criminal objective of breaking with the democratic rule of law – had been “amply proven.”
