PANOLA COUNTY, Texas (KETK) -- Samples have been sent for testing after a cat showing rabies symptoms was euthanized in Panola County.
On Tuesday, a domestic cat was taken to a local veterinarian from County Road 126 near the intersection with FM 999 in Gary. The cat showed symptoms consistent with a rabies infection and was humanely euthanized.
Samples have been sent for testing to the Texas Department of State Health Services Zoonosis Control Branch. The Panola County Sheriff's Office has been in contact with the Department of State Health Services and has stated that they will follow up on quarantine procedures if the cat tests positive for rabies.
