North Korea has fired a ballistic missile towards the east, South Korea's military says.

Yonhap news agency confirmed Wednesday's launch was towards the sea off North Korea's east coast.

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff gave no further details such as how far the missile flew.

The launch comes as South Korea prepares to host the APEC 2025 Economic Leaders' Week in Gyeongju next week.

Senior South Korean officials previously raised concerns about North Korea receiving Russian missile technology in exchange for sending troops to back the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

Whether the latest missile fired by North Korea involved any Russian technology was unclear.
