BROUSSARD, La (KLFY) -- Broussard city officials are warning business owners to be cautious after several reports of scams targeting local establishments have surfaced.
According to Broussard Police Department Captain Zac Gerard, multiple businesses have recently received phone calls from individuals impersonating law enforcement officers.
“We’ve had several businesses that have been contacted by someone that is trying to identify themselves as law enforcement,” Gerard said. “They are sending QR codes and trying to get the business to send either money via Bitcoin or an app to basically scam them out of that money.”
Police would like to emphasize to the public that no legitimate law enforcement agency will contact a business or individual by phone or text to request payment.
