In an age where many people require medications to function, those medications that aren’t needed anymore tend to be disposed of in a dangerous manner. To bring awareness to this issue, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Iron County Sheriff’s Office are reminding residents of Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 25.
According to a press release issued by the Iron County Sheriff’s Office, some residents dispose of their unneeded medications by flushing them down the toilet.
While this was a recommended method of disposal at one point in time, it’s now known that these flushed narcotics can make their way into the local water supply.
