The Nanaimo Fire Rescue used an open house Tuesday to showcase its three new fire trucks.
The department took delivery of the new trucks in early September and they are designed to be very similar to other trucks across the fleet.
“When we build our fire trucks we try to build them similar to each other,” said Nanaimo Fire Chief Tim Doyle. “Even if they’re five to 10 years apart it’s so that when firefighters get on the trucks there’s continuity for operations so when they’re opening compartments in the middle of the night and they’re in a rush they know where to find each piece of equipment.”
The units include a new ladder truck with a reach of 110 feet (33.5 metres) that has a platform for firefighters at the top.
It will be known as Truck 2 and will be housed at Station 2 on Dorman
