The NBA on NBC’s return after two decades away featured a real mic drop.

The opening minutes of the network’s coverage on Tuesday night included a mad dash to replace a microphone that had been hindered by audio issues. It prompted host Maria Taylor and analysts Carmelo Anthony, Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady to play pass the mic.

Moments into the opening of “NBA Showtime,” NBC’s pregame show for the Thunder-Rockets opening-night game, McGrady began having issues hearing Taylor before a crackling started as he was talking.

The sound prevented viewers from hearing what McGrady, the former NBA All-Star, was saying. Eventually, a quick-thinking Carter swapped microphones with McGrady, allowing his analysis to finally be heard.
