NAUGATUCK, Conn — Amazon, along with state and local officials, broke ground on a new facility in Naugatuck Valley Tuesday that is expected to create more than 1,000 full-time jobs when it opens.

The facility, a multi-level, 3.2-million-square-foot robotics fulfillment center, will be located on the border of Waterbury and Naugatuck on 193 Sheridan Drive, where the groundbreaking ceremony took place.

According to Amazon spokesperson Mike Murphy, the "first mile" in the journey of a customer's package is at their fulfillment centers, where they receive, store and prepare products for shipment. The facility on the Waterbury and Naugatuck border will be an Amazon Robotics Sortable center and will process up to 800,000 packages per day at full capacity.
