MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — A group at Wesleyan University in Middletown is calling for a new kind of memorial on campus — one that honors the animals whose lives provide food for the school community.

The proposed Wesleyan Animal Recognition Memorial, backed by PETA, would be the first of its kind at a U.S. university. Supporters say the plaque would acknowledge the animals used in campus dining halls and encourage discussion about food choices.

“Why not? There’s no harm in it — it seems like nothing negative about it,” said one student.
