India is looking to acquire a large number of missiles worth around Rs 10,000 crore from Russia for its S-400 air defence system, aiming to further strengthen its aerial defence capabilities.

The Indian Air Force’s S-400 system reportedly played a key role during a recent four-day conflict, bringing down five to six Pakistani fighter aircraft and one spy plane at distances exceeding 300 km inside Pakistan. The IAF has described the S-400 as a “game changer” in India’s air defence strategy.

“The Indian Air Force is looking to buy missiles in significant numbers to bolster its air defence capabilities. Discussions with the Russian side are already underway,” sources said. The Defence Ministry is expected to take up the IAF’s proposal for approval at the Defence Acquisition Council meeting
