LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Thirty years ago, the iconic Louisville Slugger bat was installed.
Towering 120 feet tall and weighing 68,000 pounds, the big bat still leans proudly against the museum’s building on West Main Street in downtown Louisville.
A celebration was held Tuesday for its 30th birthday.
There were cupcakes, a giant birthday card for the giant bat and limited edition pennants for the first 500 visitors.
"It has never faded on me to see the excitement that this big bat brings so many people on a daily basis, just the immediate wow factor that you see on kids and adults," Andrew Soliday, with the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory, said.
The bat, installed in 1995, is made from a single piece of steel and hand-painted to mimic wood grain. It's modeled after Babe Ruth's
