WAYNESBORO, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A judge made no decision Tuesday after 16 hours of testimony in a dispute over whether the Burke County Board of Commissioners approved a reasonable budget for the sheriff’s office.
Testimony began around 10 a.m. at the Burke County Courthouse. The county’s chief financial officer testified for more than five hours, taking questions from attorneys representing both sides.
The county focused testimony on the sheriff’s budget since taking office in 2017. The sheriff’s attorneys argued the county cannot compare other budget areas to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s attorneys want the judge to impose an injunction, declaratory judgment and mandamus against the county.
