The Tulsa County Board of Adjustment rejected an application to expand a rock quarry near Owasso.
The Mining Issue
Greenhill Properties filed an application to expand mining in East Tulsa County, citing a valuable vein of limestone that has grown in demand. The proposed area is located between 56th and 66th Street North, near 145th East Avenue, an area already home to other mining operations. Neighbors say the current mining activities are excessive, too loud, create dust issues, and affect home values.
“They can’t stop our houses from rattling and things falling off the wall, and our cupboard doors are loose and have to be repaired because they go… doooooo doot, all the time because we already have three quarries out there,” said Jan Gaylord, a nearby resident.
