(undated) -- A large number of area football teams began post-season play on Tuesday, with Section Quarterfinal games in six of the seven classes.

The vast majority of teams that hosted playoff games Tuesday evening advanced with quarterfinal round wins. Three notable road wins were scored by Sauk Rapids-Rice in Section 8AAAAA, Detroit Lakes in Section 8AAAA, and Thief River Falls in Section 8AAA. Those winners will be back on the road in the west central part of the state on Saturday. Alexandria will host Sauk Rapids-Rice in a 6 PM semifinal game at Viking Bank Field, Detroit Lakes will travel down to Fergus Falls for a 1:00 game, while Thief River Falls journeys to Veteran's Field on the Minnewaska Area High School campus for a 2:00 game Saturday afternoon.
