MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -Registration for the Goodman Community Center’s annual Thanksgiving basket drive reached capacity in record time on Tuesday, with 4,000 families signing up in five hours.
The rapid registration pace shocked organizers, who said it reflects growing food insecurity in Madison.
“It’s been an exciting kind of shocking day here at the Goodman Center,” said Florence Edwards-Miller, who helps organize the event.
Registration opened at 6 a.m. Tuesday for the annual drive, and hit capacity by 11 a.m.
“This year I was watching the page and literally just watching the numbers tick up and up and up and I couldn’t refresh fast enough to see how quickly people were signing up,” Food Services Director Francesca Frisque said.
