LAS VEGAS ( FOX5 ) — A preliminary hearing for the suspect accused of hitting and killing a 12-year-old child in Las Vegas has been postponed.

Oh’Ryan Brooks is charged with the death of Cristofer Suarez . He was hit at the intersection of 21st and Owens on Oct. 3. Brooks did not appear in court. Instead, he’ll go before a judge in one week.

Prosecutors say Brooks was under the influence when he hit Suarez and drove off. He is facing multiple felony charges and is being held on $250K bail.

Suarez’s mother said he had left for school early that morning to practice for a band performance.

Since the incident, the city has made improvements to that intersection, including repainting the crosswalk and updating signs. The City of North Las Vegas also added its own crossing guards.
