A pair of county roads are set to be downgraded from asphalt to surface treatment, as part of Prince Edward County’s 5-year road improvement plan.

During Tuesday’s council meeting, council received a report on the progress for the roads plan.

Part of the 5 year roads plan, includes downgrading County Roads 28 and 35, after a study found that they no longer received enough traffic to justify the ongoing maintenance cost of a full asphalt surface.

Councillor Roy Pennell said that it was important to try new methods to save money on road repair.

“I think this last year in particular, we have made tremendous strides in our Roads Program,” said Councillor Pennell. “So far, it looks wonderful. And I think through trying things like this, we may find we got more money to fix roads.”
