The Government of Malawi has appointed Arthur Chipenda as the Acting Director General of the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) on secondment, with immediate effect.

Chipenda, who has been serving as Director of Information in the Ministry of Information and Digitalisation, takes over the role following the suspension of George Kasakula.

According to government sources, Chipenda is a seasoned civil servant with over 20 years of experience in the Ministry of Information, where he has served in several senior roles. He also previously worked as spokesperson for the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC).

His appointment comes amid public speculation that the government might turn to other prominent media personalities for the role, including Brian Banda of Times Group.
