The state pension is set to hit £12,548 a year in April - thanks to the Triple Lock. The Triple Lock metric will see the full new state pension rise by £574.60 following a pay boost in line with earnings growth.

CPI figures published on Wednesday showed that inflation stood at 3.8 per cent in September, less than the 4.8 per cent wage growth from May to July this year used to calculate the uplift.
