'Thamma' tries to weave entertainment around yet another mythological story. This time, the story of Goddess Durga and Kali takes the centre stage, as the makers explore it to reveal the original of their central character -- a Betaal. These are phantoms, vampire-like creatures who survive on blood, but are also seen as protectors of humanity against evil.

Ayushmann Khurrana plays the ultimate Thamma of this community -- the leader with divine powers but also a beating human heart. Khurrana's Alok, a newly transformed Betaal, is the protector, and in many ways, the bridge between the living and the cursed. But as with every Maddock monster movie, even the mightiest protector must face his own kind.
