NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday strongly defended his government’s recent decision to ban the sale and purchase of Halal-certified products in the state, alleging that the money collected through such certifications was being “misused for terrorism, love jihad , and religious conversions.” Speaking at an RSS centenary event, Adityanath said that Halal certification had become a parallel, unregulated system outside government control. “When purchasing any item, check if it has a Halal certification label. We have banned it in UP. Today, no one in Uttar Pradesh will dare to buy or sell it,” he said.
