Tulsa Police and Tulsa County Sheriff’s deputies responded Tuesday to a fatal shooting involving a 17-year-old boy at the Tulsa Boys' Home.

According to the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office, an off-duty Tulsa Police officer was teaching an archery class around 9:15 a.m. at the facility when a boy reportedly took the officer's gun from the holster and shot himself. A representative with TCSO said the boy approached the officer from behind and pulled the weapon. Two other teens, two staff members, and another off-duty TPD officer witnessed the incident.

Deputies said the 17-year-old died at the scene from his injuries.

Officials have not released the boy’s name. The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation because the Tulsa Boys Home is within its jurisdiction.
