The New York Mets are set for a big offseason after falling short of expectations this year.

David Stearns and Carlos Mendoza will open every door to make the roster better next season. Despite being in early offseason trade rumors, Danny Abriano of SNY believes the team should consider a potential Francisco Alvarez extension to secure its catcher for the short term and long term.

"There is one player who stands out when it comes to a potential extension this offseason," Abriano wrote. "It's Alvarez, whose name has (weirdly) been floated in trade rumors over the last few weeks.

"An extension for Alvarez is probably something it would make more sense to explore during the season, though, if he begins the year in similar fashion to the way he ended 2025 -- when he slashed .276/.360/.561
