A Lakewood couple allegedly lied about their income to obtain more than $75,000 from a federal food assistance program, authorities said.
Refael B. Busel, 43, and Rivka Busel, 39, didn’t report income from multiple sources when they applied for and renewed their SNAP applications between September 2019 and August 2023, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
Both are charged with theft by deception and issuing a false financial statement, authorities said.
The couple were issued summonses Tuesday and given a court date, which was not listed in court records. Attorney information was not immediately available.
