PALMETTO, Fla. ( WWSB ) - There could soon be changes at several Manatee County intersections, all in the name of safety.

The Florida Department of Transportation ( FDOT ) hosted a public meeting on Tuesday at the Manatee County Fairgrounds to talk about proposed improvements for positions in Palmetto and Terra Ceia.

FDOT said 50 crashes happened at the intersection of Palmetto Cannon Driveway, leaving 4 people dead.

“So that raised a few eyebrows. And that’s why we’re here,” said Florida Department of Transportation Public Information Officer Patricia Picachette .

According to FDOT’s fact sheet, unsignalized intersections have 42 possible conflict points, making them hotspots for crashes. The sheet stated that reducing the number of conflict points makes the intersection safer.
