A 37-year-old man who prompted an Amber Alert has pleaded guilty to sexual interference and abduction.

The man had sexual intercourse twice with a young Kitchener girl and later drove her to Simcoe County without her parents’ consent, court was told.

The man was arrested at gunpoint after police issued an Amber Alert.

He pleaded guilty to sexual interference and using an imitation handgun while abducting the girl.

“The accused knew that he did not have the lawful authority or permission of the complainant’s parents to remove her from the residence,” Crown prosecutor Lindsay Lubberdink told Kitchener court Monday.

In July 2024, the man rented a basement apartment in a co-worker’s house in Kitchener. He and his co-worker’s stepdaughter, 13, “formed a close friendship,” Lubberdink said.
