The well-respected grocery chain Winn-Dixie announced this week it will close the doors to 32 stores across the U.S. as the chain retreats from portions of the Southeast to refocus operations on its home base in Florida.

In an announcement on Tuesday, the company said that 32 Winn-Dixie stores and eight Harvey's Supermarkets across Alabama , Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi will transition ownership to other grocery store companies by early 2026.

Parent company Southeastern Grocers announced it will rebrand as The Winn-Dixie Company, marking the new chapter centered on it’s home state of Florida.

The company's decision "allow us to grow where our roots run deepest,” said CEO Anthony Hucker, calling the move difficult but necessary for long-term growth.
