TOWAMENCIN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WPVI) -- There was increased security at North Penn High School in Montgomery County after a 16-year-old student was arrested with a weapon on Tuesday.

According to the district, school security located the student after getting information from a separate police investigation on a criminal matter involving the teen.

Police say he was found with the gun in school and immediately taken into custody around 7 a.m.

He's being held for a number of charges, including altering the serial number on a firearm and remains in juvenile detention on Wednesday evening.

The school says it used the Evolv Weapons Detection System, which uses Artificial Intelligence to detect potential threats as people enter the building.
