CANTON, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Two people have died after a two-vehicle crash in Canton early Sunday morning.

Preliminary crash information says that Robert Carey Tinklepaugh, 52, of Alcester was driving northbound on SD Highway 11.

At the same time, Jared Ray Gibson, 49, from Sioux Falls, was traveling southbound at the same location and drifted into the northbound lane, colliding with Tinkelpaugh head-on.

Tinklepaugh’s vehicle entered a ditch, where it rolled onto its roof.

Gibson’s vehicle came to rest in the southbound lane.

Both Tinklepaugh and Gibson sustained fatal injuries.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash, and all information released thus far is preliminary.
