Michigan State University President Kevin Guskiewicz said Wednesday morning that nearly a hundred support staff, faculty and academic staff and executive management were laid off as a result of university-wide budget cuts.

The 99 positions, which included executive managers, were cut in the first round of reductions, which amounted to $50 million, Guskiewicz wrote in an email to faculty and staff. Next year, the university will need to find about $35 million in cuts to reach the university's reduction goal of $85 million.
