DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG) - The Iowa Department of Transportation is revealing new details to KCRG-TV9 about the upcoming temporary closure of the Julien Dubuque Bridge.
The Iowa DOT revealed Tuesday the bridge from Dubuque to East Dubuque, Illinois will be closed temporarily in 2026 improvements. The DOT’s release did not include a start date for the closure, but a planner with the Iowa DOT tells TV9 that the “late start date” for the project is July 6, 2026.
“An exact start date will be known once a preconstruction meeting with the Prime contractor is held,” said Héctor Torres-Cacho, a district planner with the Iowa DOT.
Torres-Cacho added the Iowa DOT anticipates a full bridge closure for about one month. He says the eastbound detour could be in place for up to three months.
