A man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in Brampton and the alleged abduction of his one-year-old daughter has been shot and killed by police in Niagara Falls. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning, according to authorities.

Police were searching for 38-year-old Anthony Deschepper, who was identified as a suspect in a case of intimate partner violence. The situation escalated on Tuesday when Peel police responded to a shopping plaza near Airport Road and Queen Street East in Brampton just before 2 p.m. Officers found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite paramedics' efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity and age of the victim have not been disclosed.

Three hours after the shooting, Peel police issued an Amber Alert for Deschepper's missing daughter, confirming he was the child's father. Authorities alleged that Deschepper fled the scene of the shooting with his daughter in the vehicle. Later that evening, police announced that the girl had been found safe and was believed to be with family members.

As the investigation continued, police believed Deschepper was in the Niagara Region. A shelter-in-place order was issued for Crystal Beach, Ontario, but was lifted around 9:30 p.m. after it was determined that he had left the area.

Around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, officers located Deschepper at a gas station near Thorold Stone Road and Montrose Road in Niagara Falls. Police boxed in his vehicle, and during the interaction, an officer discharged their firearm multiple times. Deschepper was struck multiple times and died at the scene. No officers were injured during the encounter.

The woman who was with Deschepper at the time was taken into custody by Niagara police, and charges are pending against her. A firearm believed to belong to Deschepper was recovered at the scene, although investigators have not confirmed if it was fired.

The nature of the relationship between Deschepper and the deceased woman remains unclear. The incident is under investigation by Peel police and the Special Investigations Unit (SIU). Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
