GOSNOLD, Mass. —
Three people who became stranded on an island off Martha's Vineyard after jumping off their burning boat and swimming ashore Monday night were rescued Wednesday morning.
Three family members aboard the Third Wave departed Eel Pond near Falmouth, Massachusetts, on Friday, expected to return Tuesday afternoon. A concerned family member reported a man and his parents overdue on Tuesday evening.
"Coast Guard's received report of an overdue vessel, Third Wave, a 30-foot Chris-Craft with 0-3 persons on board, traveling from Eel Pond to Tarpaulin Cove, Naushon Island," the Coast Guard radioed, according to Broadcastify.com audio. "Mariners requested to keep a sharp lookout ... and report all sights to the Coast Guard."
