DEDHAM, Mass. —

With a court-ordered deadline approaching to appoint a new prosecutor, the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office instead opted to drop one of the criminal cases against Turtleboy blogger Aidan Timothy Kearney.

Last month, Special Assistant District Attorney Robert Cosgrove was granted permission to withdraw from one of the cases after the alleged victim attempted to involve him in a civil lawsuit against Kearney.

The DA's office was given 30 days to appoint a new prosecutor to replace Cosgrove, but instead filed a motion to end the prosecution for the affected case. Cosgrove had expressed skepticism that another prosecutor would be found to take the job.
