The nation's National Park Serviced managed sites will open to the public free on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, this year, one of several no-fee days scheduled throughout 2025.

"Many national parks have direct connections to the American military — there are dozens of battlefields, military parks, and historic sites that commemorate and honor the service of American veterans. In addition, every national park is part of our collective identity that defines who we are and where we came from as a nation. They are tactile reminders of the values, the ideals, and the freedoms that our veterans protect," the NPS website says.

Consider heading to one of Michigan's six NPS sites to enjoy the day, but keep in mind whether or not the federal government shutdown ends could impact your visit.
