MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) -- More than 260,000 South Carolina families might not receive their November SNAP benefits on time because of the ongoing federal government shutdown.

The state Department of Social Services said Wednesday it had been instructed on Oct. 10 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to withhold the benefit payments until further notice.

"Until there is a resolution in Washington, D.C. and the federal government is funded and reopens, SCDSS will not be able to provide the federally funded benefits to new and on-going SNAP households until further notice," the agency said.
