MASSENA, New York (WWNY) - Governor Kathy Hochul says hundreds of jobs are staying in the North Country thanks to a new power deal with Alcoa.

The governor announced a new agreement between the New York Power Authority and Alcoa, one of Massena’s biggest employers.

The deal secures low-cost power for the aluminum plant for the next decade and includes a commitment to maintain 500 jobs.

Alcoa is also pledging $30 million in upgrades at the facility, plus nearly $60 million more by 2028 to rebuild and modernize part of the plant.

Governor Hochul says the agreement helps protect good-paying jobs and keeps Alcoa a major part of the North Country economy for years to come.
