EAST WILLIAMSBURG — A middle school in Williamsburg had to be evacuated Tuesday morning, Oct. 21, after a bomb threat was called in, the NYPD told PIX 11 News .
Thousands had to leave I.S. 49 on Graham Avenue after the New York State Police received a call around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday that was traced to California. The caller told authorities that the bomb was in the first-floor bathroom. The building, constructed in the 1930s, houses the William Gaynor Intermediate School (named for an early 20th-century State Supreme Court justice and mayor of NYC). State police coordinated with the NYPD, which evacuated 2,000 students and faculty from the school. After Emergency Service and K9 units authorities found no device in the building, the school day proceeded.
