National and state cattle organizations were taken aback this week by President Donald Trump’s comments on Sunday, Oct. 19, to import more cattle from Argentina.

Trump suggested that the U.S. may import more beef from Argentina in order to reduce the record-high beef prices for consumers. Cattle groups say that the plan will not work and will instead hurt U.S. producers.

The Minnesota State Cattleman’s Association put out a call to action on Tuesday Oct. 21, asking producers to reach out to Congress to share their opposition to Trump’s suggestion. Their call includes a link to the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association website, where they can comment.
